1.
Blue Forest 02:54
I was walking through the forest And I thought you were by my side But when I turned around to find you You were nowhere in sight I don’t know how it happened I thought I could keep you safe I don’t usually long for the past But it was so good, so good I don’t think these memories are gon’ last Since you left so soon, so soon I’m afraid my mind might erase the last Hours of our gloom, our gloom I’m afraid I might be breathing too fast Hoping to heal you, heal you May this air fill your lungs Bring you back to me, back to me Are we Lost In This World? May you find peace, find peace May this air fill your lungs Bring you back to me, back to me Are we Lost In This World? May you find peace, find peace Under the moon I will see your face replace the stars Illuminating my dark thoughts chase them very far Under the moon I will see your face replace the stars Illuminating my dark thoughts chase them very far Cosmic confirmation Present is impatient War has swept the nation Join the conversation Cosmic confirmation Present is impatient War has swept the nation Join the conversation
2.
Your eyes were as brown as the Earth That birthed you As deep as the sea in which you swam For nine lunations This body Your first nation Eager to see you free Stumbling first steps on the shores of this sea And yet, afraid that the outside world Would not be worthy Of your kind heart and old soul Nature’s very own.
3.
What you feel about that? Kids dying in the streets How you feel about that? How you gonna react? IRL, URL, fuck your opinion They ain’t ever coming back Do you need to see it to believe it? Is your heart much colder than this season? Mass media has biased all your reason Searching for the light inside is needed And if they say the words, you know they mean it The devil’s only fighting his own demons Do you need to see it to believe it? I call out everyday Still hurts its own way I know it will be long Until the pain is over I call out everyday Still hurts its own way I know it will be long Until the pain is over It’s getting harder to breathe Harder to breathe now My mind is not at ease My mind is not at ease Need to fight this disease Fight this disease Will you proceed or retreat? Proceed or retreat? Wicked kind of foul play Don’t care what the news says We are all we have, it’s okay Strength will move mountains anyway Hear you but I must say Does the pain ever go away? Justice feels like child’s play I still call on you most days

about

Aiyana Jones. Tamir Rice. Darnisha Harris. Trayvon Martin. Mike Brown. Tyisha Miller. Youths aged 7 to 19 years old, killed without valid reason by American police forces.

Nina Simone once said: “How can one be an artist and not reflect the times?” A statement that resonates louder every time a police brutality case comes up. And since time ceased healing wounds because the names keep multiplying, old scars can’t help reopening over & over again.

It’s in this vein that "Lunation" was created. A few moons away from the dawn of Black History Month, KAMI AWORI reflected on the notion of loss, or rather, the notion of a parent having lost their child under the watch of a judicial system biased by racism.

"Lunation" is a nostalgic tale of vulnerability, hope, desperation, spirituality and protest.
